Multitrade Distributors is a South African company that specialises in providing tungsten carbide cutting tools, holding tools and industrial vending machines to the engineering and manufacturing industries. The company was founded in Port Elizabeth in 1983 with the primary goal of introducing and maintaining total tooling solutions for these industries.
As the sole distributor for Mitsubishi Materials products in the Southern African regions since inception, we have expanded our range to include various other global brands.
The head office is located in Johannesburg, we also have branches in Cape Town, Gqeberha and Durban. The company also serves other areas through a network of smaller resellers.
We are proud of the quality brands we represent, and our team possesses a high level of expertise, including the support of our technical applications department. This department provides guidance on tooling requirements and full CNC programming across many disciplines, including turnkey projects.

OUR HISTORY
How it all began…
The Managing Director teamed up with a partner and established Multitrade Distributors in Port Elizabeth. He moved to Johannesburg and started selling cutting tools from the boot of his car after signing an agreement with Mitsubishi Materials to be their sole agent in South Africa.
One Year Later
Multitrade Distributors Johannesburg was established at Metal Box House in Milpark.
We Expanded
Branches in Durban and Cape Town were opened thereafter. Four branches opened in total.
Time for Expansion
To better cater to our customers’ needs Johannesburg offices moved to a bigger property. We moved into our own 1200m² premises in Meadowdale, Germiston, Gauteng. Soon after new agencies were taken on such as SsangYong Ceramic Cutting Tools, NT TOOL Corp, KOMET Group, ARNO Werkzeuge to complement the existing Mitsubishi Materials range.
Years later…
The Johannesburg Branch in Meadowdale officially became the Head Office
We operate on a principle of servicing our customers with the right product at the right price in the shortest possible time. Shipments used to have a lead-time of six weeks, but now three shipments arrive from the Mitsubishi Materials warehouse in Singapore every week, along with shipments of our other leading brands from other countries.
Multitrade Distributors celebrated their 30th year of service to the industry.
Thirty years later the company has grown from five staff members to forty-five, with an experienced technical and sales team offering quality support and world-class products from various brands to our customers.
The Head Office in Johannesburg moved premises to Edenvale
To better facilitate staff and customers’ requirements. The company has now added various other brands to our range to allow our customers a better variety of quality and price.
We established Multitrade 3D Systems (Pty) Ltd
Due to the increasing trend of Additive Manufacturing in South Africa, our sister company Multitrade 3D Systems (Pty) Ltd was established in 2019.
